Master Teacher

1. What made you decide to be a teacher/work in education?

I love working with kids. I started teaching children as a teenage life guard/swimming teacher and got hooked. It is such an exciting thing to see kids learn whether they are swimming, diving, reading or writing. The more opportunities I have, the better I like teaching.

2. Where did you graduate from?

My undergraduate degree is from UNO (University of New Orleans), and I did my graduate work at the University of Kansas where I received my master's degree.

What has brought you to this point?

I took early retirement from Lawrence Public Schools to move here and be a master teacher. Eagle County's great reputation for supporting public education was a motivator (TAP), as was the fact that my daughters and their families live in and love the area.

3. How many years have you been teaching/working in education?

Many, many, too many! I think this is my 30th year in education. I taught in New Orleans, LA, Los Angeles, CA, Lawrence, KS, Great Bend, KS, and now Gypsum, CO. I have had great experiences in each place!

4. What do you like most about teaching/working in education?

Working with kids is refreshing and rewarding. They keep me happy and thinking young. Education continues to evolve and educators continue to learn new things. This learning, while challenging, is invigorating.

5. Anything else you would like the GES school community to know about you.

I think the kids here are great and this area beautiful. I am delighted to have the opportunity to get to know this community and live in the mountains near my family.
