by Web Admin last modified August 29, 2006 09:08 AM

DESCRIPTION: This year the Tech Academy has been organized into four strands: Multimedia, Microsoft applications, Classroom Integration and New Technologies for HS/MS Social Studies. Each will give you an opportunity to work toward a comprehensive project. Participants may remain within one strand, or choose topics from multiple strands. Tech. Academy is open to all school district employees!

Keynote - John Kuglin, Director of Technology

Navigating a Flat World, Technologies for Gen D

Gen D - The generation that has grown up with and is completely at home with digital devices and digital culture.  They are the generation born after 1997, the first generation not to have any memories of a pre-9/11 world.  And yet, it is a generation destined to compete in a global work environment.  How do we provide them with the knowledge, tools and skills to compete in a world where virtual technologies eliminate boundaries – a flattened world?  John Kuglin will use his 30+ years of diverse experience in K-12 classrooms, higher education, and corporate America to create a new understanding for emerging technologies.  He will combine these technologies in such a way as to create a new learning environment without the historical boundaries of time, distance, and resources!  Participants will learn how new learning tools are formed, and as a result be able to form greater insights toward finding technological solutions for education.   The range of presentation technologies include the latest developments from Google and high resolution satellite imagery, unique web-based subscription services, iPod resources, and even Hollywood which is currently directing the DVD phenomenon sweeping the country!  Participants will be motivated, inspired, and energized to reach and teach their Gen D students in this new digital environment.
